This week evolved into a month of recognition in 1976 when President Gerald Ford officially designated February as Black History Month during the United States Bicentennial, highlighting the profound legacy that continues to shape our world.

Throughout this month, we will explore essential themes that have shaped Black history, from the inspiring activism that has fueled social change to the impressive milestones achieved by Black leaders. Our focus will be on influential leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Angela Davis, as well as significant movements such as the Civil Rights Movement and the Harlem Renaissance.

We will celebrate the impact of Black culture on music, art, and film, highlighting icons like Nina Simone, Prince, Spike Lee, and Viola Davis. Additionally, we will recognize the role of Black athletes like Jackie Robinson, Serena Williams, and Simone Biles, who have used their platforms to break barriers and inspire change. In STEM, we will acknowledge pioneers such as Katherine Johnson, Dr. Mae Jemison, and Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, who continue to shape our world with their groundbreaking achievements.
