GivingTuesday: A Global Celebration of Giving and Kindness
Giving Tuesday is a worldwide movement that promotes generosity and honors the spirit of giving. It is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, providing a meaningful opportunity to shift the attention away from the consumer-driven rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and toward acts of kindness and community support.
Henry Timms, then Executive Director of New York's 92nd Street Y, launched Giving Tuesday in 2012 in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. Supported by groups like BLK SHP (Black Sheep), the initiative has since grown worldwide, inspiring millions across 80+ countries to make charitable contributions, volunteer, and perform acts of kindness. It is a reminder that the power of kindness can have a significant impact, no matter what obstacles we face.
